What seemed to be a regular day going karting with my friends, to turn out to be one of the most exciting days I had in a long time. While I was karting, the manager that works there approached me telling me that there is an auto-x competition going on in the drift track and I should join. I told him that I’m going to pass as I came with my friends and didn’t want to skip them. An hour later, after finishing our karting session, I realized that the Auto-x competition was still going on, so I told myself that I have to go check it out. I drove my Evo to the track and the minute I reached I hear “Yala Anas, quickly go in.” One of the organizers opened the gate of the track and I went in. there were around 15 cars parked on the side including Mustangs, Subarus, S2000s, and others. The manager came to me and told me that I’m really late, all the contestants have practiced the previous day, and practiced again earlier today and already finished round 1, and now were in the final round. However, he told me you have to try it out, so look at how other drivers are taking the track so you do the same.
After 3 cars finished their turns, it was my turn. I put on my helmet and drove to the starting line. I was pretty nervous as this was my first time ever attempting an auto-x competition, and I have not practiced on this track at all as the other drivers did. While at the starting line, I hear KTV3 announcing my name which made me even more nervous. The green flag was waived and off I went, driving around the cones not knowing what’s next. I did the best I could taking the fact that I was slowing down significantly trying to figure out where to go most of the time, at one point I hit a cone as I was really confused on where to go. Anyway, I finished the course and to my surprise I was given the 5th place cup which was awesome.
The overall experience was great, and will definitely try to take part in more competitions. Competitions like this should be organized regularly as it is extremely fun, challenging and rewarding. It can greatly improve your driving skills and techniques.
